Here is a quick rundown of the show.
I was contacted by the Monster House crew regarding my skills in building electric furniture. They had seen my other webpage pictures about electric furniture racing. They explained the theory behind the show and talked with me about my knowledge of electric furniture. At first they where interested in consulting me for knowledge on what it might take to motorize a piece of furniture. I talked with them about several ideas I had and about their potential costs and outcomes.
Time passed and I did not hear anything about the show, until approximately a week and a half before the scheduled starting date. It seems that the Monster House coordinators decided that they would need my assistance to build an electric piece of furniture and to ensure that it would work. Because of the special components required to make the chair and ensure that it would work well I had to get busy before the show would start. I had to quickly decide on motors and controllers that would work well together. Unlike my personal chair, this one needed to be safe and controllable. I knew that it would need to have good brakes and speed controll. Also, unlike the popular show Monster Garage, they would not have a machine shop available. Infact it was questionable what exactly would be available to work with.
I hastily e-mailed them a shopping list and then hoped for the best. In the last few days before I would have to leave for Simi-Valley I dusted off some of my various project boards and my laptop in preperation for building some sort of mixer/controller. I couldn't find anything off the shelf that I liked and they seemed to be reluctant to spend money on parts before the show started.
Skip to the first day of the show.
I rolled into Simi-Valley not really knowing what to expect. This, after all, was going to be the premier episode and it was being planned on the fly. On arrival I meet the guys I was going to be working with and the rest of the Monster House staff.
Watch the show and find out what happens!
Below are picture I took before each day of construction. Sorry I didn't take more but we worked at least 16 hours a day and I never stopped long enough to take a picture.
